Autopsy results back following teen's death, but police tight-lipped

'I know many want to know the details of this case, but it is a very delicate situation involving publication bans, the Youth Criminal Justice Act and two very young teenagers,' says police official

Barrie police now know what killed a 15-year-old in a south-end Barrie home earlier this week, but won't release details due to the ongoing investigation.

Officers with the Barrie police forensic identification unit are still collecting evidence at the Penvill Trail home in the city's southwest end where a 14-year-old boy is accused of first-degree murder in the death of a 15-year-old male victim.

Police will remain on location until their investigation is complete.

A forensic post-mortem examination has been completed at the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service in Toronto, but Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday the department will not be released any details.

“We are not able to give the cause of death at this time due to the fact the investigation is ongoing. As well, of course, (we) can’t give the identity of the deceased as it falls under the Youth Criminal Justice Act," he said.

Police were called to the single detached home located near Ardagh Road and County Road 27 home just before 6 a.m., Tuesday, where they found a teenager suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Leon said he could not provide details about how well the two teenagers knew each, other than they did both live in the home.

“I can confirm that both lived in the residence, but I can’t speak to the dynamics of the home,” said Leon. “I know many want to know the details of this case, but it is a very delicate situation involving publication bans, the Youth Criminal Justice Act and two very young teenagers.

"This is certainly going to be a difficult one for everyone to get through," he added.

The 14-year-old boy who has been charged with first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a weapon and fail to comply with sentence made his first appearance this morning and will appear in court again via video remand on Friday, March 8.
