Arrest made in connection to human remains found near Parry Sound

WEST PARRY SOUND - On January 15, 2017, shortly before 8 p.m., members of the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a snowmobile trail off Nobel Road in McDougall Township.

Upon arrival at the scene, the officers located what they believed to be human remains. The Office of the Chief Coroner was notified and attended the scene.

The human remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Coroner - Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS) in Toronto where yesterday, a forensic post mortem examination was commenced and is continuing.

The West Parry Sound OPP Crime Unit, supported by the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit (FISU), OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI), and the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), under the direction of Detective Inspector Mark Zulinski of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are continuing the death investigation in conjunction with the Peel Regional Police.

On January 17, 2017, an arrest was made and the investigation remains ongoing.
