TORONTO - Darlene and Laurie Weir of Nottawa are celebrating after winning the guaranteed $1 million prize from the Dec. 27, 2017 Lotto 6/49 draw.

“We went to the store to check our tickets and we had two instant tickets that were winners,” shared Darlene, while the couple were at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up their winnings. “When I checked our Lotto 6/49 ticket, the number 1,000,000 appeared on the customer display screen. I said to Laurie, ‘I think I saw the number one with six zeros’,” she recalled.

Darlene, 58 and Laurie, 62 have been playing the lottery for 40 years. When they brought their winning ticket to the retailer, the machine froze and OLG called to confirm the win. “I went into shock and then I started crying,” shared Darlene.

“This win will help because my current job is only during the summer,” Laurie explained.

Darlene plans on retiring. “Life will be less stressful for us now. I plan on donating some of this win to charity and planning a trip to Mexico. It still hasn’t sunk in that we won, I want to pinch myself to make sure it’s real,” she concluded.

Lotto 6/49 includes a guaranteed $1 million prize draw along with each and every draw, offering players 104 more chances to become a millionaire each year. Since its launch in June 1982, Ontario Lotto 6/49 players have won over $12 billion, including 1,351 jackpot wins and 218 guaranteed $1 million prize draws.
