NEWS RELEASE

GEORGIAN COLLEGE

Barrie residents who would like to take part in a dynamic, inter-cultural experience have a chance to do just that this summer.

The Barrie Campus of Georgian College is welcoming 60 visiting faculty members from Mexico July 4 to 29 and is seeking local residents to host them.

This is an opportunity for community members in the Barrie area to spend some time with visitors from another culture. Many Georgian staff, friends and family have already agreed to help, but additional placements are still needed.

Those taking part will need to commit to providing room and board for a one-month period. Georgian’s International department will provide $750 to cover related expenses.

“International education enriches lives – it’s all about experiencing a different way of living and enhancing cultural learning experiences,” says Marina Tomchak, International Housing Co-ordinator.

“Internationalization is a positive component to Barrie’s diversity and global awareness. Homestay hosts often become friends and guides in a new culture, and the experience can be very enjoyable all round.”

Tomchak adds that the international faculty get the benefit of establishing relationships in the community and practising their English language skills and cultural awareness.
