2015 9 29 election ballot

With just two days left to join the race, candidates are lining up for the Ward 7 byelection to replace John Brassard.

The 11th candidate signed up Wednesday - former police board member Doug Jure.

He ran unsuccessfully in Ward 10 in the 2014 municipal election and quit the police board, which he chaired, shortly after.

Earlier this week, Elena Arruda registered.

She ran unsuccessfully for separate school board trustee in 2010.

Others vying for the seat include:

  • Jane Dewar, who lost the Liberal nomination in Barrie-Innisfil against Colin Wilson.
  • Ram Faerber – who ran unsuccessfully for mayor in 2014 and again for MP in Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte
  • Andrew Prince, who served as Ward 9 councillor from 2006 to 2010
  • Darren Roskam, who has run repeatedly as a Libertarian
  • Jim Hosick
  • Bonnie-Lyn Gow
  • Craig Ripley
  • Randy Starr.

Nominations close Friday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m.

Advance voting will be held on Jan. 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m, Jan. 26 and 28 from 4 to 9 p.m.

By-election day is Feb. 1 and the winner will be sworn in at a council meeting Feb. 8, 2016.
