Conservative Alex Nuttall has been decared the winner by a slim margin of 89 votes in the riding of Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte, 19 fewer votes than he received on election day, October 19.

Following the official recount results, Liberal Candidate Brian Tamblyn congratulated Nuttall.

"His challenge now is to work constructively with the new Liberal government in the interest of all the constituents of our Barrie—Springwater—Oro—Medonte riding," he added.

The Judicial Recount was conducted November 4th to the 6th and examined all votes cast at the riding’s 20 polling stations. The recount took place at Elections Canada offices at 580 Bayfield Street.

“This is not the result we had hoped for,” said Tamblyn, “We made a strong showing in a very tight race. I ran for all the right reasons, and am proud of the over 500 volunteers who worked passionately for me and this riding.”

The October 19th election was the longest in recent Canadian history.

"We ran a clean campaign focused on the regional and national issues that will make a difference for this riding’s future,” said Brian Tamblyn, the former President and CEO of Georgian College.

As for the future, Tamblyn said he will take some time to reflect on his election experience.
