70-year-old cyclist dead after rear-end collision

Police say the driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Speed and alcohol have been ruled out as causes

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

BRADFORD — On Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at 6:45 a.m., South Simcoe Police were called to the 4th Line of Bradford West Gwillimbury, just east of County Road 27 for a cyclist struck collision.

A 70-year-old Tottenham man was cycling east on Line 4 when he was struck from behind by a eastbound Chevrolet pick up truck.

The cyclist was transported to hospital with serious injuries, and was pronounced dead at hospital. Reconstructionists from the Traffic & Marine Unit closed the road until 12:30 p.m. to investigate the crash.

The pickup truck driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Speed and alcohol have been ruled out as causes of the collision.

Anyone who was driving on Line 4 around 6:40 a.m., particularly an individual in a white pick up truck, is asked to call Police Constable Rich Williamson at 905-775-3311 x 2006.
