54 new COVID cases reported in Simcoe-Muskoka since Friday, 18 in Barrie

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 54 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths today (June 7), the first report from the health unit since Friday, June 4. 

There are 311 active cases in the region. 

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,066 cases of COVID-19 with 11,087 of those cases recovered and 246 cases ending in death.

There are 27 people from Simcoe County hospitalized with COVID-19, which is an increase of five new hospitalizations since Friday. 

The health unit has reported a total of 4,719 variant strain cases, with 209 of those still active. 

To date, 348,790 Simcoe-Muskoka residents (57.7 per cent of the population) region have received their first dose of vaccination against COVID-19. Of those, 45,782 people (7.6 per cent of the population) have also received a second dose.

The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified). 

  • Barrie (18): One youth under 18 years old, nine people between 18 and 34 years old, seven people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person over 79 years old. One case is travel-related, 11 are linked to close contact, and five are listed as community-acquired. 
  • Innisfil (5): Three youth under 17 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. Four cases are linked to close contact transmission and one is listed as community-acquired. 
  • Collingwood (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old whose case is listed as community-acquired. 
  • Wasaga Beach (2): One person between 18 and 34 years old and one person between 35 and 44 years old. One case is listed as community-acquired and the other is linked to close contact transmission. 
  • Clearview (2): Two people between 35 and 44 years old. One case is listed as close contact transmission and the other is outbreak-related. 
  • Bradford (7): One youth under 18 years old, two people between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, one person between 65 and 79 years old, and one person over 79 years old. Six cases are linked to close contact transmission, and one is listed as community-acquired. 
  • Orillia (3): Two youth under 18 years old, and one person between 18 and 34 years old. All three cases are linked to close contact transmission. 
  • Ramara (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old whose case is listed as community-acquired. 
  • Midland (2): Two people between 18 and 34 years old whose cases are linked to close contact transmission. 
  • Tay (2): Two people between 45 and 64 years old. Both cases are linked to close contact transmission.
  • Penetanguishene (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old whose case is linked to close contact. 
  • Adjala-Tosorontio (4): One youth under 18 years old, two people between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. All four cases are linked to close contact transmission. 
  • New Tecumseth (3): One youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 35 and 44 years old. All three cases are linked to close contact transmission. 
  • There are three new cases in Muskoka included in today's list. There are two in Lake of Bays, and one in Gravenhurst. 

The health unit does sometimes remove a case or move them based on further investigation of location data. The chart below reflects updated totals for each municipality as reported by the health unit on May 28).
