On Saturday March 5th, 2016 officers with South Simcoe Police Traffic and Marine unit partnered up with officers from the Ministry of Natural Resources to do a combined R.I.D.E. and Conservation authority check in Innisfil.

Officers checked anglers coming off Lake Simcoe after a day of ice fishing.

A total of 450 vehicles were stopped and checked in the R.I.D.E. program at three locations around the Gilford area.

16 drivers had been drinking and were given roadside tests.

Police suspended three drivers for being in the WARN range and issued 3-day licence suspensions accordingly.

Seven drivers were charged under the Highway Traffic Act with various offences, including driving while under suspension, equipment violations, and licence plate violations.

Conservation officers using a specially trained canine, inspected 72 vehicles, 139 anglers, and one hunter.

Various charges and warnings were issued including, fishing without a licence, fishing over limit, and leaving bait fish on the ice.

Police and Conservation officers remind all anglers and hunters to be responsible about your enjoyment of Lake Simcoe.
