344 new COVID-19 cases and 41 deaths reported in Ontario today

Public Health Ontario is reporting 344 new cases of COVID-19 today, which is a 1.3 per cent increase in the total number of confirmed cases in the province. 

The province is also reporting 41 new deaths related to the coronavirus. The most recent victims reported include 12 people between the ages of 60 and 79 and 29 people over the age of 80. 

In total, 2,230 people have died from COVID-19 in Ontario, including 1,412 residents living in long-term care homes. 

The province has reported 310 additional recoveries since yesterday’s update, bringing the total number of resolved cases to 20,983. There have been 27,210 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Ontario to date. 

Since last report, Public Health Ontario notes there have been 18,525 coronavirus tests processed with another 13,351 awaiting results.

There are 826 patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19, including 129 in an intensive care unit and 100 patients on a ventilator. 

The Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care reported today there are now 123 active outbreaks at long-term care homes in Ontario, and those outbreaks have led to 1,625 resident deaths and six staff deaths. 

Public Health Ontario also reported there are 91 ongoing outbreaks at retirement homes in the province and 48 ongoing outbreaks at Ontario hospitals. 

In total, there have been 300 outbreaks at long-term care homes, 140 outbreaks at retirement homes and 84 outbreaks at hospitals in the province, according to Public Health Ontario. 

There have been 460 cases confirmed in the Simcoe-Muskoka region, and 368 people have been reported recovered. There have been 36 deaths in the region, and 35 of those occurred in Simcoe County.

In Simcoe County, 351 of the 442 confirmed cases are now reported recovered, and seven people are hospitalized.

All of the people from Muskoka District who tested positive for the coronavirus have now recovered, one man from Muskoka Lakes has died.

The case rate (including lab-confirmed cases only) for the Simcoe-Muskoka region is 76.6 cases per 100,000 population. The provincial average is 183.1 cases per 100,000 population.

The case breakdown by municipality, according to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, is as follows:

  • Barrie (149 cases, 118 recoveries, 14 deaths) 
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (99 cases, 76 recoveries, 12 deaths, one in hospital) 
  • New Tecumseth (48 cases, 34 recoveries, three in hospital, one death)
  • Orillia (17 cases, 13 recoveries, two deaths, one in hospital)
  • Collingwood (15 cases, all recovered)
  • Wasaga Beach (13 cases, 12 recoveries, one death)
  • Clearview (Seven cases, six recoveries, one death)
  • Innisfil (35 cases, 29 recoveries, one in hospital)
  • Springwater (nine cases, seven recoveries, one death)
  • Midland (six cases, all recovered)
  • Oro-Medonte (five cases, three recoveries, two deaths)
  • Adjala-Tosorontio (seven cases, all recovered)
  • Essa (11 cases, seven recoveries, one death)
  • Ramara (seven cases, five recoveries)
  • Tiny (three cases, all recovered)
  • Tay (five cases, four recoveries, one in hospital)
  • Penetanguishene (three cases, all recovered)
  • Severn (three cases, all recovered)
