13 new COVID cases in Simcoe-Muskoka Tuesday, eight in Barrie

There are fewer than 200 active, lab-confirmed cases in Simcoe-Muskoka according to the latest update

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 13 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths today (June 8).

There are 199 active cases in the region. 

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,078 cases of COVID-19 with 11,210 of those cases recovered and 246 cases ending in death.

There are 24 people from Simcoe County hospitalized with COVID-19, and there have been no new hospitalizations since yesterday's update.

The health unit has reported a total of 4,726 variant strain cases, with 133 of those still active. 

To date, 352,821 Simcoe-Muskoka residents (58.4 per cent of the population) region have received their first dose of vaccination against COVID-19. Of those, 47,992 people (7.9 per cent of the population) have also received a second dose.

The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified). 

  • Barrie (8): One youth under 18 years old, three people between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, and two people between 65 and 79 years old. Four cases are linked to close contact transmission. 
  • Springwater (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old.
  • Innisfil (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old whose case is linked to close contact with another known case. 
  • Bradford (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old whose case is attributed to community transmission (no known epidemiological link).  
  • Penetanguishene (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old whose case is outbreak-related.
  • There is also one new case in Muskoka (Gravenhurst) included in today's list. 

The health unit does sometimes remove a case or move them based on further investigation of location data. The chart below reflects updated totals for each municipality as reported by the health unit on June 8).
