NEWS RELEASE
YOUTH HAVEN
************************
It’s back!!! Youthhavenfest is an annual concert in support of Backyard Campout for youth hosted by the Barrie’s Live Music Show supported by BIA’s Open Air Dunlop. It is now also happening during Barrie’s Kempenfest long weekend entertainment and fun, taking place on the Meridian Place stage on July 30. Starting at 10 a.m. and running until 4 p.m. with musical acts such as 89 Klicks, Rider, finalists of the Simcoe Rising Star Talent Competition, Robert Beasley, the Mathias brothers, Kat Chabot, Megan Anne, Steve Taunton and more!

All funds raised will be donated directly to Youth Haven Canada, Simcoe County’s only homeless shelter for youth between the ages of 16 to 24.

Youth Haven is more than just a place to stay. They offer supportive services like counselling, life skills and planning, transitional housing, medical check-ups, as well as referral services such as mental health support to help youth get back on their feet and become successful members of society. In 2021, Youth Haven was able to support youth in their efforts to get off the streets and attain homes of their own. On average Youth Haven was able to house youth youth per month.

“We are excited to once again be working with Barrie’s Live Music Show and that they share our mission. We are grateful that they continue to be the difference in the lives of youth who are experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of becoming homeless” said Jennifer Kaplinski, A.T.T executive director for Youth Haven. “Our goal is to raise $25,000 through our Backyard Campout signature. Barrie’s Live Music Show created Youthhavenfest in support of Backyard Campout to help us reach our goal.”

“Our region has been experiencing a homelessness crisis, and there is no better time than now to come together as a community again to help raise money, and raise awareness for the amount of support that is greatly needed for so many” said Jorden Mathias, co-creator of the Barrie’s Live Music Show. “What better way than to continue doing the work with the Barrie’s Live Music Show; a genuine group of people who came together organically during hard times over the past two years to help each other out while keeping the music alive and well, along with our spirits.”

Since the pandemic began, the Barrie’s Live Music Show has raised over $100,000 for local charities in Barrie, has hosted over 5 in person charity concerts and has grown their Facebook group to over 12,000 members, with hundreds of musicians sharing their live streams and music.

“When the pandemic took a strong hold, I saw a community come together through music like I have never experienced,” said Jake Mathias, creator of the Barrie’s Live Music Show. “Having two years pass, and still being a pivotal force for the community to help raise funds and bring hope is so fulfilling. We need to continue to help eachother, and what better way than with music!”

If you are looking for an online community that focuses on helping others, and tuning out the fear by turning up the music- to help get you through these challenging times – please join Barrie’s Live Music Show on Facebook. Whether you are a musician or a music lover, all are welcome to listen or play as the group is a judgment-free zone for all ages.

Come out, have fun, donate and help Youth Haven continue the work they do. Let’s work together so our youth are off the streets and in safe, healthy homes of their own!
