The Barrie Art Club is delighted to present Poems in Pastel, a captivating exhibition of pastel paintings by local artist Susan Hunter Guise.
Set to run from Jan. 27 to Feb. 22 at the Barrie Art Club, located at 11 King St., Unit 8, this unique exhibition combines vibrant pastel artworks with original haiku poems, creating a harmonious dialogue between visual and literary art forms.
The exhibition’s opening reception is scheduled for Sunday, Feb, 2 from 1 to 3 p.m., offering attendees the chance to meet the artist and explore her works in an intimate setting.
In this exhibition, Guise pairs each pastel painting with an original haiku, deepening the viewer’s engagement with the artwork. Inspired by her studies of shodo (Japanese calligraphy) and haiku, Guise’s works blend the bold textures of pastel with poetic reflections, celebrating the beauty and serenity of the natural world.
“Pastels offer a richness and depth that truly come to life when viewed up close,” says the artist. “This exhibition reflects my love for nature, with each painting and poem inviting viewers to experience a moment of peace, beauty, and quiet contemplation.”
Through her impressionistic style, Guise captures the complexity and elegance of landscapes, inviting audiences to reflect on the intersection of art and nature.
The exhibition and opening reception are free to attend.
