Two of Canada’s top entertainers, Mark Critch and Rick Mercer, will be attending the Leacock Medal award gala dinner in Orillia on Saturday, Sept. 17, an event at which the winner of the Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour in 2022 will be announced.

Critch and Mercer, together with Saskatchewan Cree author Dawn Dumont, are the finalists in this famous competition, in which the winner takes home a cash prize of $25,000.

This year, the Leacock Medal celebrates its 75th anniversary since the first award in 1947, and many past winners and finalists will be attending the events on the weekend, including two-time winner Terry Fallis, who will be the MC at the Friday event. The MC for the dinner on Saturday will be humorist Ali Hassan, the host of CBC’s Canada Reads and Laugh Out Loud.

Tickets for the gala dinner on Saturday the 17th and the Meet the Authors event on Friday the 16th will be freely available for purchase until Friday, Sept. 9, after which only a severely limited number will be available.

Those who don’t want to miss out on this scintillating celebration may purchase tickets online at www.leacock.ca/gala.php.
