The following letter is in response to a story titled 'At opposite ends of town, folks worried about speeding, noise in their neighbourhoods', published April 13.

Although a little late, I came across the above mentioned article this morning. I couldn't agree more with the contents.

I have contacted the appropriate (councillor) for my area, only to receive reply emails that expressed little interest in correcting the issues. Steel Street, just off Penetanguishene Road, not only is disturbed by loud vehicles, we also see speeding vehicles. Several times I have witnessed vehicles travelling at a speed that only belongs on a highway, not a residential street.

In one of his reply emails to me, the (councillor) stated that he would contact police and ask them to have a car patrol the area.

Never have I seen a police vehicle.

I have stated a number of times in my emails that this is a residential area and there are children playing. If there isn't any action taken against speeding vehicles, then it would only be a matter of time until a serious or deadly accident happens.

I suggested speed bumps. The reply I got was to submit a request online that the speed bumps be installed, then he said "we don't want to raise taxes." Raise taxes to install speed bumps that just may deter a speeding vehicle and prevent someone from being seriously injured or killed?

Speeding is rampant in this city. I respect the fact that police cannot be everywhere, however when repeated requests and concerns are submitted only to end up being ignored, that serves only to compound the problem

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
