This is going to be a very difficult and challenging holiday season for many. With that in mind, I’d like to wish you and your loved ones happy holidays, and a safer, healthier, more prosperous 2021!

For front-line workers, our health-care workers and all staff in long-term care homes working with our seniors, please know that you are very much appreciated for your truly heroic work.

For those that have lost loved ones, and those whose lives have been turned upside down, I share in your grief and your struggles.

We can’t sugarcoat this — 2020 has been a difficult year, but we are going to make it.

And while we can see a light at the end of the tunnel now that vaccines are on the horizon, there is still a need to remain cautious.

As we wait for a vaccination rollout, I urge you to remain vigilant, and follow the guidelines set out by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit by limiting contact to your household only.

Things are even more difficult this year due to isolation and loneliness, but please, keep your gatherings virtual. It's the safest way to visit and to recognize special occasions with people outside of your household.

I know we can do this. Barrie-Innisfil is a community that cares about each other. We’ll do what is necessary for the safety of our loved ones, our friends, and our neighbours. Together, we can get through this.

Once again, on behalf of our entire Barrie-Innisfil NDP team, I wish you a Merry Christmas, a Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Kwanzaa.

Happy new year everyone! Thank you and take care!

Pekka Reinio
