The following letter is in response to a proposed seniors community, called McLean Park, on Penetanguishene Road in Oro-Medonte Township, just outside the Barrie city limits.

I am writing in support of the McLean Park project. As a senior and longtime Barrie resident who moved to a retirement residence a year ago, I am very aware of the scarcity of suitable and affordable housing for the older adult in Barrie and environs.

I wish that a development such as McLean Park had been available when I was in need. I would very much prefer to live in a mixed community with younger people and families nearby, and stores and services within walking distance.

It is very isolating to live in a retirement residence. The only younger people we see are staff or visiting families.

As a society we seem to want our old folks out of sight and out of mind. I believe that all generations would be healthier mentally and physically if there were regular contact among age groups.

I hope very much that the City of Barrie will welcome the generosity of the McLean family and give them full support in their desire to build a planned community.
