The following letter is in response to a story titled 'Boaters visiting Orillia could soon face new trailer parking fees,' published April 1.
This is seriously discouraging to potential boaters and fishermen who use these launches.
It also seems self-defeating to discourage tourists from visiting and spending money in your community.
As a boater and a fisherman, I am now inclined to take my business (buying gas, meals, bait and tackle) elsewhere. I think charging for trailer parking and/or launching is a regressive move and will have a negative impact. It will also needlessly create ill will among visitors and locals alike.
It would be best if this idea was shelved.
