I would like to congratulate the BarrieToday team for being recognized with two awards at Masthead’s Canadian Online Publishing Awards recently.

It’s been seven months since the devastating EF-2 tornado tore through south Barrie and north Innisfil and, for many families, the recovery is still ongoing.

Within minutes, BarrieToday photographers, reporters and editors sprang into action to provide up-to-the-minute information about the ongoing emergency. Their work was critically important.

I witnessed the tremendous response that day from police, fire, paramedics, city and town staff and others. In the hours and days that followed, it was heart-warming to see volunteers – neighbours and strangers from Barrie-Innisfil and beyond, working together to help those in need.

BarrieToday played a critical role in bringing the community together and building support for our citizens after the tornado.

Thank you for telling the stories that are so important to Barrie-Innisfil.

Keep up the great work!

John Brassard
Barrie-Innisfil MP
