The following letter is in response to a story titled 'Thong-wearing protester joins race to become Barrie's next mayor,' published Aug. 17.

I read in Wednesday’s edition that Weldon Hachey has thrown his thong into the hopper, so to speak, to run for the position of mayor for the City of Barrie.

Oh, dear.

I personally fear now the jig might be up for us elites, gatekeepers and deep-behind-the-throne power brokers in and around the County of Simcoe and beyond.

I further read Mr. Hachey is also aiming his future mayoral focus on taking on the World Economic Forum as well  that international entity which has such a pervasive impact on our day-to-day lives here in this wonderful community.

On second thought, seems to me Mr. Hachey may be misdirected and might be running for the wrong job in the wrong forum. Why not run as a Conservative Member for Parliament? I suspect Mr. Hachey would fit nicely into the political milieu Pierre Poilievre is hoping to create in Ottawa.

Mr. Hachey, however, might want to leave the thong at home in Barrie.
