Wine lovers can pop into Uncorked for 'modern, cozy vibes'

Chad and Curtis Johnston, who've owned Winescape downstairs on Commerce Park Drive for almost seven years, opened Uncorked in 2020

Uncorked wants to be a go-to venue for people looking for a modern and intimate ambience for small-scale events in Barrie.

“Uncorked combines modern and cozy vibes to create an experience like no other” is how event co-ordinator Haleigh Payne describes the Commerce Park Drive business.

Furnished with a mix of velvet, live edge wood, mixed metals, and marble, the south-end venue hosts different types of events, such as birthdays, bridal showers, baby showers, workshops, and more.

Uncorked has been deemed one of Barrie’s most “Instagramable” settings, Payne tells BarrieToday

“This is a place to create an experience instead of just another event,” she says.

With capacity of up to 30 people, Uncorked provides an ideal space for professional training, staff meetings and team building in small groups as well.

In addition to private events, the venue also offers open-to-the-public wine tastings, paint nights as well as other pop-up classes and events.

Uncorked says it has a unique competitive advantage thanks to its parent company Winescape, which is located downstairs.

The business says all of the wines in Uncorked’s collection are hand-crafted at Winescape and come from all over the world, everywhere from Australia to Spain, Chile to California, plus a few Canadian favourites.

“If guests enjoy the wine we serve, they have the opportunity to hand-craft their own batch for a fraction of the cost of store-bought wines," Payne says.

The fermentation facility is in the back of Winescape, where wines take anywhere from four to eight weeks to make. Each batch of wine purchased at Uncorked makes 30 bottles of wine and can last up to five years, if stored properly.

By creating menu pairings with Winescape’s selections, Uncorked provides an 'enhanced' food experience through its partnership with local hospitality company Cravings Fine Food.

“Most of our events include charcuterie," Payne says, "because who doesn’t love wine and cheese?”

Both Winescape and Uncorked are owned by local couple Chad and Curtis Johnston.

The Johnstons, who have owned Winescape for almost seven years, opened Uncorked in 2020.

In two years, Uncorked has held numerous wine tastings and dozens of social and work events.

“We have received so much love and support since opening. We are so lucky to have such a supportive community and clientele surrounding us," Payne says.

Uncorked says it's focused on creating memorable experiences for its clients and is looking forward to what the new year may bring.

“You can check out this hidden gem for yourself by attending one of our many open-to-the-public events," Payne adds.

The venue also offers a flat-fee rental.
