Extreme cold warning continues.

Flurries to start 2018 with risk of afternoon snow squalls.  Local amount 5 to 10 cm. Wind becoming north 20 km/h early this afternoon. High minus 14. Wind chill minus 30.

Flurries ending tomorrow morning then mainly cloudy for Tuesday. Wind gusting to 60 km/h near noon. High minus 6. Wind chill minus 28.

Here are the details of the extreme cold warning issued by Environment Canada:

Extreme Cold Warning in effect for:

  • Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale
  • Midland - Coldwater - Orr Lake
  • Orillia - Lagoon City - Washago

A multi-day episode of very cold wind chills is expected.

2018 starts with a bitter cold day.

Windchill values near or below minus 30 are expected in most areas early this morning.

These wind chills will moderate during day. However, latest indications continue to show that these very cold conditions may persist into Tuesday for most areas before moderating somewhat around midweek.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Check on older family, friends and neighbours.

If it's too cold for you to stay outside, it's too cold for your pet to stay outside.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
