A special weather statement is in effect.

Mainly cloudy today with a 40 percent chance of flurries this morning. Snow beginning near noon. High minus 6.

Here are the details of the special weather statement issued by Environment Canada:

4:44 AM EST Monday 11 December 2017

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale

Widespread snowfall likely tonight followed by lake effect snow squalls on Tuesday.

An approaching Alberta Clipper will spread an area of snow into Central Ontario beginning later today. The snow will begin to taper off Tuesday morning with a general snowfall of 5 to 10 cm expected.

Although localized higher amounts of 10 to 15 cm are possible, snowfall warnings are not expected as amounts will be less than the 15 cm per 12 hour threshold required.

Poor winter driving conditions are expected to continue as a result.

On Tuesday, conditions will become favourable for the development of lake effect snow squalls in northwest flow over Georgian Bay. Snow squall watches will likely be issued later today.

Environment Canada will continue to monitor this situation and update statements accordingly.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
