The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed eight new cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County today, including two children.

The youngest cases reported today include two girls under 18, one is from Oro-Medonte and one is from New Tecumseth. Both cases are attributed to close contact transmission.

There are two new Barrie cases today: one woman and one man, both in the 18-34 age group category. The woman's case is attributed to close-contact transmission and the man's case is reported as community-acquired.

There is one new case in Springwater. A woman between 65 and 79 years old has tested positive and her transmission is listed as community-acquired.

The remaining three cases include an Essa man between 45 and 64 years old (close contact), a New Tecumseth woman between 18 and 34 years old (close contact), and a Severn woman between 18 and 34 years old whose case is still under investigation.

Five cases previously reported by the health unit (four from Ramara and one from Barrie) have been reassigned to different health units and removed from the list. Therefore, the total number of cases confirmed by the health unit increased by three new cases today, instead of the full eight cases reported.
