Two more residents who had tested positive for COVID-19 have died at Simcoe Manor in Beeton, bringing the death toll to nine people at the long-term care facility.

The home, located in the town of New Tecumseth, is owned by the County of Simcoe, but officials from Barrie's Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) were recently brought in to manage the outbreak at the facility following a provincial order.

The county provided an update on the outbreak Friday night.

"Our case count continues to remain stable with 40 residents and 28 staff at Simcoe Manor confirmed as COVID-19-positive," says a post on the county's website. "Our last positive cases were reported to us by the health unit on Oct. 17 and date back to facility-wide testing that occurred on Oct. 15 and 16. Eighteen of our COVID-19 positive residents are asymptomatic, with no related symptoms.

"Unfortunately, two residents, who were also COVID-positive, passed away (Thursday) night, bringing the total number of COVID-related deaths to nine. Our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies are with all those impacted."
