Three new COVID-19 cases in Barrie schools today

There are currently 22 active cases of COVID-19 in schools across Simcoe County, according to school boards and the health unit

Two Barrie high schools and one Barrie elementary school are reporting new COVID-19 cases as of this morning.

Eastview Secondary School is reporting a new COVID-19 case, with one classroom closure according to reporting by the public school board. Innisdale Secondary School, also in Barrie, is reporting two new COVID-19 cases this morning, with no classroom closures.

A new case and classroom closure is also being reported at Terry Fox Elementary School in Barrie today.

There are two new COVID-19 cases being reported at Bradford elementary schools: one at W.H. Day Elementary School, with no classroom closures and one at St. Marie of the Incarnation Catholic School, with one classroom closure.

Also new as of Feb. 24, there is a case being reported at East Oro Public School in Oro-Medonte Township, with one classroom closed. 

As of Feb. 24, at the Simcoe County District School Board, there are currently 15 active COVID-19 cases:

  • Two cases at Innisdale Secondary School in Barrie
  • One case at East Oro Public School in Oro-Medonte, with one classroom closed
  • One case at Eastview Secondary School in Barrie, with one classroom closed
  • One case at W.H. Day Elementary School in Bradford
  • One case at Bradford District High School
  • Two cases and two classrooms closed at Terry Fox Elementary School (Barrie)
  • One case and one classroom closed at Alliston Union Public School
  • Four cases and one classroom closed at Innisfil Central Public School, health unit declared an outbreak on Feb. 16
  • One case at Tottenham Public School
  • One case and two classrooms closed at Banting Memorial High School (Alliston)

At the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, there are currently five active COVID-19 cases:

  • Our Lady of Grace Catholic School in Angus has one case, with one classroom closure, reported on Feb. 17
  • St. James Catholic School has one case, with no classroom closures, reported on Feb. 19
  • St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School has one case, with one classroom closure, reported on Feb. 13
  • St. Peter's Catholic Secondary School has one case, with one classroom closure, reported on Feb. 21
  • St. Marie of the Incarnation Catholic School in Bradford has one case, with one classroom closure, reported on Feb. 23

There is a current outbreak at an unnamed private school in Simcoe County and it involves two confirmed cases, according to the health unit’s reporting. An outbreak has also been declared at Innisfil Central Public School.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is responsible for declaring a COVID-19 outbreak in the region. According to the health unit site, an outbreak is declared at a school when student and/or staff have confirmed COVID-19 cases that can be linked to the educational setting.

The health unit will contact those who are considered to have had high-risk exposure to a known case of COVID-19.
