Another resident of Trillium Manor has died of COVID-19.

The Orillia long-term care home, which is operated by the County of Simcoe, is also reporting a new case in a staff member and a resident as of Wednesday. Since an outbreak was declared at the home on Dec. 14, 20 staff members and 10 residents have contracted the virus. Three residents have died.

However, hope is on the way.

“Yesterday afternoon we received confirmation from the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit that resident vaccinations will take place on Saturday, Jan. 16 at the home,” wrote a county official in a release posted to their website on Thursday night.

According to the release, the most recent staff member to come down with COVID-19 is asymptomatic and was identified through the affected-unit staff testing that last occurred on Jan. 10.

The resident case was confirmed via a rapid test Wednesday morning, which was administered after the individual began exhibiting mild symptoms on Monday evening.

Of the 30 total cases at the home, eight resident cases (including the three deaths) and 14 staff cases have been resolved as of Jan. 13.

So far, the outbreak has been contained to the Oro-Medonte unit of the facility.

Trillium Manor is home to 114 residents total, and employs 180 staff members.
