There are 129 new COVID cases in Ontario today

There have also been three more deaths in the province from the coronavirus, bringing the death toll to 2,719 in Ontario

Public health officials in Ontario are reporting 129 new cases of COVID-19 in the province today. 

That's down narrowly from Saturday when 130 new cases were announced. 

Meanwhile, the total number of cases in Ontario now sits at 36,723. Of those, 32,534 people have recovered, which accounts for 88.6 per cent of all cases. 

There have also been three more deaths from the virus since the last provincial report a day earlier, bringing the death toll to 2,719 people in Ontario. That includes 1,729 residents in long-term care homes, which have been hardest hit by the virus, as well as eight health-care workers in those facilities. 

Just over 15 per cent — or 5,537 — of COVID-19 cases in the province are in long-term care homes. Another 2,395 cases are among health-care workers associated with outbreaks in long-term care homes, representing 6.5 per cent of all cases. 

As of Saturday, there have been 1,691,419 tests completed in Ontario, including 25,726 since the last provincial report. Health officials also say 16,174 tests remain under investigation. 

Across the province, there are 116 people hospitalized for treatment of the coronavirus, including 29 patients in intensive care and 19 on ventilators. 

As of July 10, Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 609 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region to date, with 579 of those reported in Simcoe County.

Thirty-six people have died and the health unit has reported 555 recoveries. The incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 102.4 cases per 100,000 people in the population. 

There are 17 active cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County including three people hospitalized, according to the health unit's July 10 epidemiological report.
