South-end Tim Hortons closed after employee tests positive for COVID

Location at Mapleview and Veterans will remain closed until it can be cleaned and a new crew is brought in, says company official

Editor's note: This story has been modified to correct the address of the Tim Hortons location that is closed. BarrieToday apologizes for the error and any confusion it may have caused.

A Tim Hortons on Mapleview Drive West in the city's south end is closed until further notice after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

The Tim Hortons, located at 151 Mapleview Dr. W., shares the same facility as a Petro-Canada gas station at the corner of Mapleview and Veterans Drive.

A note on the glass entrance to the coffee shop says the "restaurant is temporarily closed due to the evolving health situation.”

An employee at Petro-Canada said the Tim Hortons had been closed for two days.

A spokesperson from Tim Hortons told BarrieToday that it was closed following a positive COVID-19 test.

“We can confirm this restaurant is currently closed. We were informed that a team member who works at this restaurant tested positive for COVID-19. We wish the employee a full recovery," they said in an email.

"The health and safety of guests and team members has been our top priority throughout the pandemic," they added in the email. "Following public health guidelines, team members who worked closely with this person are self-isolating for 14 days and will be supported through Tim Hortons corporate and restaurant owner COVID-19 compensation fund to make up for any lost wages."

The restaurant will remain closed until it can be "thoroughly cleaned and sanitized and a separate crew of team members can be brought in," the spokesperson said.
