Simcoe County's first daycare COVID case confirmed at Barrie facility

SEEDS administrator says parents were informed and all necessary protocols have been followed to allow south-end facility to remain open

The first positive COVID-19 case at a daycare in Simcoe County has been confirmed in a child at a south-end Barrie facility.

The Simcoe Early Education Development Services (SEEDS) location on Ashford Drive, attached to St. Peter's Catholic Secondary School, has confirmed that one child has tested positive for the coronavirus.

SEEDS administrator Leila Irwin told BarrieToday that parents were notified and that all precautions have been taken to allow the centre to continue running.

“Rest assured that with the leadership and our partnership with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit and the Ministry of Education, SEEDS Childcare has followed all necessary protocols,” Irwin wrote in an email. “Parents were appropriately informed, the safety of all was kept at the forefront of our day-to-day continued operations.”

SEEDS has five daycares throughout Barrie with before- and after-school programs at 11 locations.
