One new COVID case reported in Barrie today

The local case is one of five reported in the region this afternoon by Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit

The local health unit has confirmed five new cases of COVID-19 today in their first update since Friday, July 3. 

The new cases include a man from Barrie who is between 18 and 34 years old, and is a close contact of another known case. 

There were also three cases confirmed in Midland, which until now has only had five total cases confirmed in local residents. The new cases include a man and a woman between 64 and 79 years old and a woman over the age of 80. The transmission source for all three Midland cases is listed as under investigation. 

The final case reported by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit today is a man over the age of 80 from Tiny Township. It's been two weeks since a case was reported in a Tiny Township resident. 

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 607 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region. 

Thirty-six people have died and the health unit has reported 537 recoveries. The incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 102.1 cases per 100,000 people in the population.

There are 33 active cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County, and one active case in Muskoka. There are two people hospitalized with the coronavirus in Simcoe County and one in Muskoka.
