One new COVID case confirmed in county

New case is in Penetanguishene; There are 18 active cases of COVID-19 in the county

The region's health unit has confirmed a single new case of COVID-19 in Simcoe County today. 

The latest reported case is a man between 35 and 44 years old from Penetanguishene. The transmission source for his case is still under investigation.

However, the total number of cases in Penetanguishene has not changed because the health unit also removed a Penetanguishene case it reported yesterday from the list.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 616 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region to date, with 585 of those reported in Simcoe County.

Thirty-six people have died and the health unit has reported 560 recoveries. The incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 103.6 cases per 100,000 people in the population. 

There are 18 active cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County including three people hospitalized, according to the health unit's July 15 epidemiological report. 

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit will enter Stage 3 of the province's reopening plan on Friday.
