New COVID case reported at south-end Barrie school

This week, there have been three outbreaks declared at schools in Barrie, Midland and Bradford

A new COVID-19 case is being reported today at an elementary school in Barrie's south end.

St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School, located on Summerset Drive, is reporting one new COVID case on Friday. No classrooms have been closed as a result.

Three Simcoe County schools have had outbreaks declared by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit this week: Maple Grove Public School in Barrie, St. Theresa's Catholic High School in Midland, and Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bradford.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is responsible for declaring a COVID-19 outbreak in the region. According to the health unit site, an outbreak is declared at a school when student and/or staff have confirmed COVID-19 cases that can be linked to the educational setting.

As of March 5, at the Simcoe County District School Board, there are currently 17 active COVID-19 cases:

  • One case at Orillia Secondary School
  • One case at Ardagh Bluffs Public School in Barrie, with one classroom closure
  • One case at Fieldcrest Elementary School in Bradford
  • Two cases at Steele Street Public School in Barrie, with two classrooms closed
  • One case at Angus Morrison Elementary School in Angus
  • One case at Cundles Heights Public School in Barrie
  • One case at Goodfellow Public School in Innisfil, with one classroom closed
  • Two cases at Maple Grove Public School, with two classroom closed, outbreak declared Mar. 1
  • One case at W.C. Little Elementary School in Barrie, with one classroom closed
  • One case at Wyevale Central Public School in Tiny Township
  • One case at the Orillia campus of the school board's adult learning centre
  • One case at Lions Oval Public School in Orillia
  • One case and one classroom closure at Georgian Bay District Secondary School in Midland
  • One case at W.H. Day Elementary School in Bradford
  • One case at Tottenham Public School

At the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, there are currently 12 active COVID-19 cases:

  • Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic School in Barrie has one case with no classroom closures, reported Mar. 4
  • St. Mary's Catholic School in Collingwood has one case, with one classroom closure, reported Mar. 3
  • St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School in Bradford has one case, with one classroom closure, reported Feb. 24
  • Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bradford has two cases, with two classroom closures, reported on Mar. 2, outbreak declared Mar. 2
  • St. Theresa's Catholic High School in Midland has two cases, with two classroom closures, reported on Feb. 28, outbreak declared Mar. 1
  • St. James Catholic School has one case, with no classroom closures, reported on Feb. 19
  • St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School has one case, with one classroom closure, reported on Feb. 26
  • St. Peter's Catholic Secondary School has one case, with one classroom closure, reported on Feb. 21
  • St. Marie of the Incarnation Catholic School in Bradford has two cases, with one classroom closure, reported on Feb. 23

The health unit will contact those who are considered to have had high-risk exposure to a known case of COVID-19.
