The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed 29 new cases in the Simcoe-Muskoka region today, including 27 in Simcoe County, 10 of which are in Barrie.
There are three youth among today's cases, one from Barrie (male), one from New Tecumseth (female), and one from Clearview (male). The transmission sources in all three cases is under investigation.
Including the boy, there are 10 new cases reported in Barrie today. The remaining nine are individuals between 18 and 34 years old, with three travel-related cases, five close-contact cases, and one community-acquired case, which is also the lone female case for the city today.
There are two new cases in Orillia today including a woman between 18 and 34 years old (close contact) and a woman between 45 and 64 years old (travel-related).
Including the youth case, there are seven new cases in New Tecumseth today including a woman and a man between 35 and 44 years old. The woman's case is listed as community-acquired, the man's case is listed as under investigation. The remaining four cases are two woman and three men between 18 and 34 years old. Two cases are close contact and the other two are under investigation.
Four of today's cases are Bradford West Gwillimbury residents including a woman between 45 and 64 years old (close contact), a man between 18 and 34 years old (close contact), a man between 35 and 44 years old and a man between 65 and 79 years old. The latter two cases are still under investigation.
The remaining five cases include an Oro-Medonte resident (45-64), two Bracebridge residents, an Essa resident (45 to 64), and an Innisfil woman between 45 and 64 years old who was a close contact of a known case.
There are currently three cases of COVID-19 confirmed at Simcoe County District School Board schools, including Admiral Collingwood Elementary, Bear Creek Secondary School and Twin Lakes Secondary School. Classrooms have been closed at Admiral and Bear Creek. There are five confirmed school-related cases within Simcoe Muskoka District Catholic School Board facilities, and there are six classrooms closed. The schools include St. Paul's Catholic School (Alliston), St. John Vianney Catholic School (Barrie), St. Angela Merici Catholic School (Bradford), Sister Catherine Donnelly Catholic School (Barrie), and Father F.X. O'Reilly Catholic School (Tottenham).
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 872 cases of COVID-19, with 812 of those in Simcoe County. There are now 740 cases listed as recovered. There are no hospitalizations reported on the health unit website. Thirty-eight people have died.
The health unit indicates there are 77 unrecovered cases in Simcoe County, and 80 active cases in the region.
