Eight new COVID-19 cases confirmed today in Barrie

Outbreak declared at Roberta Place Long-Term Care Home after staff member tests positive

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is reporting 17 new COVID-19 cases in the region today, eight of which are in Barrie.

Tuesday was the first time since Friday the health unit provided updated numbers.

The Barrie cases include two males under 17 (close contact), two males between 18 and 34 (under investigation), one female between 45 and 64 (under investigation), one male between 18 and 34 (close contact), one female between 18 and 34 (institutional outbreak) and one female between 45 and 64 (travel related).

One staff member at Roberta Place Long-Term Care Home in Barrie has tested positive for coronavirus, so an outbreak has been declared there. An official noted testing for all residents took place over the weekend. They are awaiting results but have no suspected symptoms among residents.

The outbreak at the Mill Creek Care Centre in Barrie has been declared over.

Of the 17 new cases, all but one are in Simcoe County. There was one new case reported in Muskoka — a female under 17 in Huntsville. That case is related to a workplace outbreak.

No new deaths have been reported in Simcoe-Muskoka.

Three new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Bradford West Gwillimbury. They are a female between 18 and 34 (travel related), a male between 18 and 34 (under investigation) and a female between 35 and 44 (community acquired).

Two new cases have been confirmed in New Tecumseth — a female under 17 and a male over 80. Both cases are related to close contact.

Ramara Township has one new case. It is a male between 18 and 34 and is related to close contact.

Innisfil has one new case — a female between 18 and 34 (close contact) — and there’s one new case in Wasaga Beach involving a female between 45 and 64. That case is travel related.

There are three outbreaks in Simcoe-Muskoka. In addition to the one at Roberta Place, an outbreak remains at The Pines Long-Term Care Home in Bracebridge, and a new outbreak has been declared at a food service facility in Muskoka. Two staff members are self-isolating. The health unit would not divulge the name of the business.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 733 coronavirus cases in the region, with 694 of the cases in Simcoe County. Of those, 632 cases are listed as recovered and 37 people have died. Two people are in hospital — one in Barrie and one in Bradford West Gwillimbury.
