It's not the goblins I fear

As everyone prepares for Halowe'en, Wendy has a list of what is truly scary in this week's Everything King

Hallowe’en is almost upon us.

I know this because costumes and candy started showing up in the stores at the same time as back-to-school sales did.

It has become a huge celebration maybe moreso for adults than for children.

There’s a crazy amount of party stores popping up with special make-up, costumes and home decorations for indoors and out.

I love everything about it except for the scary parts. I can’t do horror.

I don’t like being frightened. Nowadays, people seem to really like zombies, blood and guts, and spooky movies.

Maybe I don’t like fake scary because there is so much to fear on a daily basis.

Here’s a list of stuff that scares me. Feel free to add to the list.

  1. The drive between Barrie and Toronto on any given day at any given time. Add in snow and I am as pale as a ghost.
  2. The list of possible serious side effects that may affect me if I take a certain medication. Death is the least of the horror. It may be best just to take my chances with garlic around my neck.
  3. Being locked out of my email with no clue of my last password change and being on the last chance to get it right before you are locked out of the system. That takes the air right out of my lungs.
  4. Scariest job: being a White House news reporter trying to decipher what the heck the U.S. president has just said and what it means. Even scarier would be the poor employee who has to monitor his Twitter account on a daily basis.
  5. That sinking feeling when you await the approval on your credit card while standing at the cashier. (They stare like you are a monster)
  6. Most terrifying discovery? Finding random hair sprouting out of body parts where there has been no previous sign of hair. Also losing hair in places that still requires hair.
  7. The fact that I spend so much on lotions and potions and still look more like a witch than a princess.
  8. The hideous realization that I can be sitting and watching a TV show and by the time all the commercials are over, I have forgotten what show I was watching and the plot line.
  9. The loss of civility in our society. The anger, the cruel comments on social media, the arguing and the seeming lack of empathy — now, THAT is frightening.
  10. The truth that we are all running out of time and there will never be enough hours to spend with those we truly love and appreciate. That is the stuff of real nightmares.

Something wicked this way comes.
