Health Canada has asked multiple companies to take down unauthorized online advertisements or claims that their products prevent, treat, or cure COVID-19.

According to a news release, these claims include a wide range of products such as some masks, colloidal silver, certain hand sanitizers, plant-based elixirs and formulas, Chaga mushroom blends, ultraviolet lamps, and oregano oil.

Health Canada says selling or advertising health products that make false or misleading claims is illegal, and the Department will work with the Competition Bureau to address any of these claims relating to COVID-19.

Consumers who have purchased one of these products and is using it to prevent, treat, or cure COVID-19, should discontinue and consult with a healthcare professional about any medical concerns.

The release says a series of published lists of hand sanitizers, disinfectants, and personal protection gear that meet Health Canada standards are available for consumers to review.
