Municipal elections take place Oct. 24. The following is from Liana Maltby, who is running for council in Essa Township in Ward 3. Liana Maltby, along with her husband Ed, has lived in Essa Township's Ward 3 for 28 years. They have two daughters who attended Baxter Central School and Nottawasaga Pines Secondary School. Liana has always been passionate about serving her community and is excited to run for councillor in Ward 3.
She has had a successful career serving in numerous roles with the same employer for over 37 years. As an executive assistant, she has supported a provincial board of directors and members of a provincial association. In her position as an executive assistant, she has interacted and built strong relationships with municipal and provincial government officials. She organized and was involved in government lobby days advocating for legislative change.
Liana was chosen to represent her co-workers as the union steward taking staff concerns to management and successfully negotiating their first collective agreement. In this role, she has proven her ability to advocate and effectively represent her co-workers.
Liana was instrumental in the fundraising initiatives for many community partners including Living Faith Presbyterian Church in Baxter, Parkinson’s SuperWalks in Alliston, and Cookstown Curling Club. Additionally, she provides administrative support for an international board.
As a long-standing member of Cookstown Curling Club, Liana collaborated successfully in developing and submitting a grant proposal to the Trillium Foundation to enable the club to make improvements. She served as the Ladies League director for several years.
Liana is a strong supporter of 4-H Canada and both of her daughters were members of multiple 4-H Clubs, thanks to the assistance of the local community.
Liana consistently demonstrates accountability, strong communication, honesty, integrity, and respect.
Her proven values, experience supporting and serving people, has given her competencies to serve the community as councillor for Ward 3.
If elected, Liana is committed to creating and fostering inclusive relationships that encourages dialogue from diverse perspectives working together to create a strong community.
Liana is running for councillor in Ward 3 to collaboratively develop growth strategies that reflect community values, support community and traffic safety, and be a strong advocate for environmental responsibility.
