Fire destroys $200K Sea Ray at Midland marina

Plumes of heavy black smoke could be seen across Midland harbour where the vessel sank

Midland firefighters responded to a reported boat fire at Bay Port Yachting Centre on Wednesday.

According to Southern Georgian Bay OPP, the fire occurred at the marina's 'A' pier.

When fire crews arrived on the scene at 1 p.m., they found the 40-foot Sea Ray engulfed in flames.

The fire is not considered suspicious and no one was injured. However, the $200,000 vessel is now sunk and a total loss, according to OPP.

While other details remain sparse since no one is allowed in the marina due to the current stay-at-home order, large plumes of heavy black smoke could be seen across Midland harbour.

A firefighter on scene declined to comment when asked about the blaze.

Fire crews left the scene at about 3 p.m.
