Garage, car destroyed by fire in Barrie

'The damage was such that to find the actual source of ignition would be very, very difficult,' said BFES official

Fire destroyed a garage and car at a Hickling Trail address in Barrie Saturday night.

Firefighters were called to 41 Hickling Trail at 10:30 p.m. and residents were already out of the house when crews arrived.

There were no injuries.

“The fire was knocked down probably within half an hour, but the crews were probably on scene until 1:30 (a.m.),” said Assistant Deputy Fire Chief Derek Wilson. “It was in the garage mainly, just a little into the home.”

He said the early damage estimate is $300,000 to the Volkswagen car and garage.

There were six Barrie Fire and Emergency Service vehicles on the scene.

Wilson said the fire’s cause is unknown, as of Sunday morning.

“The damage was such that to find the actual source of ignition would be very, very difficult,” he said.
